Friday

Hey ladies of Minnesota, two more days!

clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right

So I was up at 3:30 this morning letting the dog out. I walked to the front of the house and looked out the window. Our neighbor was on his snowmobile. I honestly thought I was seeing things but five minutes later he started it up and went for a ride. This must make you think we live on a farm or someplace where everyone is sitting on at least five acres. Eh, no...here's sort of what our neighborhood looks like:

only with less trees

Thursday

southern sign

LOL, I sent an email greeting via the hospital website where my cousin just had her baby in Missouri...here are the instructions on addressing said email:

(Please do NOT address mail to "Mom," "Sis," "Grandma," "Bubba" or other nicknames.
Remember...we don't know who "Bubba" is, so unless you include the patient's first and last name,
we can't deliver his/her mail! )

Do you watch Project Runway?

If you see it the way I do, you're disappointed as hell that Chris March is auf the show.

Friday

a message for the neighbor

Disclaimer: Living in the sticks isn't the worst thing in the world. It's generally quiet and usually a short car ride from wherever we may need to go on a regular basis. This message is for all the "Beths" in the world who can't mind their own damn business and seem to thrive on the misfortune of others.

Dear Beth,

I now know where the "nosy neighbor" stereotype comes from, it comes from you. You know full freaking well that my husband and I aren't big into living in suburbia, that we're here as a result of a housing choice made long before I came to living here.

When I stopped at the neighbor's garage sale at the end of the summer and introduced myself to her I was a little put off that she knew which house I lived in, how many children I have and how old they are. Let's see, how would she know that? I never met her in my life.

You know we are "hi"/"bye" people in this neighborhood. Our philosophy is that we do not live in a townhouse so there's no reason to coexist to the point of downright friendliness and familiarity for the sake of an association. If your curiosity must be satisfied regarding our social lives...my husband loves his work and does most of his socializing there, we are getting involved in our church/school and I have a handful of friends I communicate with on a regular basis.

Now, to the point...this message is all about how you told my husband yesterday about the tragic loss of our yard-behind neighbor's infant. You actually approached my husband as soon as he came home from work and ambushed him with the horrible news as he was bringing the garbage cans up the driveway. WHAT??? We barely even knew she was pregnant! How is that our business?

I've asked you about your "mom's club", I've asked you about who you use as a babysitter and you don't share ANY information about such things, things that are positive and productive. You even snickered on my son's first day of school about how far we have to drive to bring him there.

To your (and your husbands) credit, we can trust each other to be normal enough to do small favors when you/we are out of town so thanks for that but please, keep the garish, gauche gossip to yourself. I would think that you have FOUR CHILDREN would keep you busy enough to mind your own business, two does it for me!

Sincerely,
Hotdish

Tuesday

catalog request

The last thing I want is another catalog sent to the house but The Vermont Country Store is an exception. Any store that sells Ice Cubes, the intriguing chocolate bits that were sold by the cash register at Castlewood restaurant in Wood Dale, IL where we had to go at least once a week so my brother could have a waffle with chocolate ice cream and bananas on it for dinner is okay with me from a nostalgia-monster feeding standpoint. Was that a run-on sentence?

P.S. I didn't like eating anything on Castlewood's menu or much of anything back then so I would eat a dinner roll and sugar packets, nice.

Monday

the latest in lists

From Target & Costco. It took me a couple minutes to realize that the Costco one was a pizza order. 1/2 saugeg & 1/2 chees (minor?)

Wednesday

heard and said today

HEARD:

about 8 :30 am at Target between a few stock people (women)

#1: So, if you had to choose between me and your ex wife, who would you pick?

answer by #2 (female, I'm assuming this was a hypothetical question presented to her) inaudible but the word "depends" may have been used

#1: Well, my boyfriend's ex wife comes over all the time, just walks right in like she owns the place and starts taking things without even saying hi.

...more inaudible banter...

#3: Do they have kids together?

#1: No, see, that's the thing. You think I should break up with him, don't you?

#3: No, not necessarily but you should talk to him about it and it may take awhile but it will probably change. It sounds like he's just lazy.

#2 has dropped out of this entirely, and who can blame her? Anyone who knows me knows how much I wanted to chime in. Perhaps if I'd consumed my Starbucks before coming upon the situation she would have gotten an earful of why she's an idiot to even entertain the thought of sticking with the clown.

SAID:
about 10:05 am at McDonald's drive thru as I was wanting a salad

speaker: Good Morning, welcome to McDonald's, may I take your order?

me: is it still breakfast?

speaker: yes, it's breakfast until 10:30

me: gross

I'd had my coffee.

Saturday

moron the weather

What? This is just the beginning of this poem, you can click the picture for more if you really want to. It's like reading the menu from Cracker Barrel.

WHEN the frost is on the punkin and the fodder's in the shock,
And you hear the kyouck and gobble of the struttin' turkey-cock,
And the clackin' of the guineys, and the cluckin' of the hens,
And the rooster's hallylooyer as he tiptoes on the fence;
O, it's then's the times a feller is a-feelin' at his best,
With the risin' sun to greet him from a night of peaceful rest,
As he leaves the house, bare-headed, and goes out to feed the stock,
When the frost is on the punkin and the fodder's in the shock.

Friday

seriously

Have you seen the commercial for this?

Tuesday

Berry Go Round day 18

The carnival came to town a few weeks ago and the "Berry Go Round" refused to live the life of a carnie any longer. It's been sitting on the side of the road for nearly three weeks now.

Wednesday

I forgot to blog yesterday.

Sunday

hiding figure flaws with the greatest of ease

I lose a little weight and trapeze tops are in for fall...

If I had a million dollars (or more)

and had to spend it on a house in the Wisconsin Dells, I'd take the one on the left (lest someone rolls up wanting to use my ATM)

Go Ask Alice when she's ten feet tall

Alice wasn't attached to the gigantic watering can at Storybook Gardens, she was hiding behind some bushes at the cinderblock repair shop, head in hand. Are those metal bars at the spout where she usually sits? I'd have more than a headache if that was the case.

Saturday

The Dells

The more things change...

Monday

What's the attraction? aka places I care not to go

The House on the Rock in Spring Green, Wisconsin. I once heard on a travel show that this house was inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright, Wrong.

Thursday

Yoga on Tap, the Anti-Yoga

I saw this on TV today, they're IN A BAR. LOL, not quite Lilia's Yoga and You (70's PBS).
